About the course

Foundations of Effective Supervision

A foundational introduction to ethical, reflective supervision of support personnel

Supervision is more than a requirement—it’s a responsibility.

Foundations of Effective Supervision is a foundational mini course designed to help Speech-Language Pathologists understand the mindset, role, and responsibilities required for effective supervision of Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs).

Rather than focusing on tools or step-by-step strategies, this course centers on awareness, reflection, and readiness—providing a clear orientation to what supervision actually requires before implementation begins.

If you’ve ever completed a required supervision course and still felt unsure about navigating real-world supervision dynamics, this course offers a thoughtful starting point.

Course Overview

This foundational mini course introduces key concepts that shape effective supervision, including:

  • The professional and ethical responsibilities of supervising SLPAs
  • Common challenges and breakdowns in supervision relationships
  • Power dynamics and the importance of trust, respect, and communication

  • Self-reflection on beliefs, assumptions, and readiness to supervise

This course is designed to help supervisors pause, reflect, and orient themselves before adopting tools, systems, or structured supervision strategies.
